candela di cera d'api

Cosa c'è di speciale nelle candele di cera d'api?

Many people don’t know that they could be using products containing beeswax and may not be aware of it. We’ve all heard of beeswax. But have you ever stopped to consider how it is made and why? It’s likely that you haven’t, so let me tell you.

My wife and I switched to natural products in an effort to be healthier. One of the changes we made was in our home’s candles. We switched from candles made from paraffin wax to candles made entirely from beeswax. Being curious, I researched how beeswax is made by bees and the reasons for it. Some of these facts were known before I went, while others I didn’t know.

How does Beewax get into the candle?

Since the dawn of time, bees have been enjoyed by people in many ways. It is often mentioned that beeswax is used in many ways. But how exactly does beeswax get from the beehive into the candle? Bees create wax to store honey they have made. The hexagonal-shaped structures found in wax are an engineering marvel. This structure has been shown to provide bees with the highest honey volume, the lowest amount of wax, and the strongest bees. It is no coincidence that honey and beeswax are sweet by smell or taste. Both are products of the way they store and collect nectar.

The beeswax is actually white and not yellow, as we thought. The yellow colour is due to contact with pollens they collect and bees themselves.

Honey is made from nectar collected by bees. Honey is eaten by bees. Honey is also stored by bees. Honey is also stored in wax by bees. How do bees make wax? This is what we really want. To make wax, bees consume a lot of honey. Their bodies convert honey sugar to wax flakes, which they then chew and stick in the hive. After honey is extracted, the wax stores more honey and, in our case, it becomes a candle.

Quali sono i consigli e i segreti delle candele di cera d'api?

How does beeswax travel from the hive into the candle? Here’s how it works. Before honey extraction, the wax caps of the honeycomb must be removed. To remove any dirt or particles from the honeycomb’s wax cappings, heat some water and melt the wax. Beeswax is highly flammable so make sure to not boil the water. The beeswax will melt and any impurities will drop to the bottom of your pan. Once the water has boiled, the beeswax will be able to be scooped out of the top. You can then drain the water off the beeswax by placing it in a strainer or cheesecloth. It is now ready to be used in your candle making projects.

To put this in perspective, the beekeepers and beekeepers have done a lot of work. A hundred pounds of honey will yield 1-2 pounds beeswax. Beeswax is sometimes harder to find due to the decline in American bee populations. This gives us more reason to appreciate the bees’ hard work in producing wax, honey and nectar.

What are the bees using the wax for?

There are many uses for beeswax. Brood comb is made from some of the beeswax. This is the area in which the eggs are laid. It is usually located in the lower half of the hive. Brood comb is usually darkened by all the pupil linings, and other impurities that have been tracked in over time by the bees. The honey comb is also made from beeswax. This is the structure that stores honey and pollen collected by worker bees. The wax caps are last. This beeswax seals the cavities of the honeycomb. This is the purest form beeswax, and it is usually white or light yellow.

Two Methods to make Beeswax Candles

There are two ways you can make beeswax candles. You have two options: either wrap the beeswax sheet around a cotton or wick, or pour the melted wax into the mold. These are both possible methods.

Come fare belle candele con la cera d'api naturale?

You will need sheets of wax, scissors, and a cotton-wick. You will need a flat surface to work on. Place your beeswax sheets on the work area. For traditional tall thin candles, fold the beeswax into a square. You can make your candles more interesting by cutting the beeswax in a square or diagonal shape for tapered candles. The scissors can be used to trim the crease where you folded the beeswax. Keep the edges even. To soften it, let it sit for 20 seconds. Your wick should be cut about an inch longer than your beeswax. Place the wick on the sheet’s edge and begin rolling it with both your hands. Place the wick so that half an inch is visible on both sides of your sheet. After you have completed the roll process, heat the sheet with a hair dryer to seal it. Use your finger tip or a comb to smoothen the edges.

You can now cut the wick at one end and trim the other one to one quarter inch. This is the same process as making a regular candle. The only difference is the beeswax. Place the beeswax in a double boiler. Heat the oven. 160 degrees. Wax melt on 145 degrees. You can prepare the wick while you wait. Cut it to the required height plus 2 inches. To make your wick stiffer and easier to hold straight, dip it in the melted butter. To hold the wick in place, use a pen or a knife. Once you are done, trim the wick to the length you desire. Let your candle dry for 24 hours before you test it.

Beeswax candles make a great gift and are very eco-friendly. It does not release smoke or toxins into the atmosphere. We hope you have lots of fun making beeswax candles.
